Our hospital, which has a utilization area of 43,368 square meters, was opened in 1993 as SSK Kocaeli Hospital with a bed capacity of 1100. Since it was decided to use as the hospital building integrated with Kocaeli University Faculty of Medicine Hospital in 1996, it continued to provide services with a bed capacity of 385. After the Marmara earthquake on August 17, 1999, our building became moderately damaged. After Kocaeli University moved to its new building our services first continued in prefabricated structures and then moved in its old, reinforced building, except for the administrative units.
Our hospital, which was transferred to the Ministry of Health as of February 19, 2005 in accordance with the law numbered 5283, was renamed as Kocaeli Derince State Hospital. Upon the completion of the renovation works of our main building and additional units, which became unusable as a result of the Marmara earthquake on August 17, 1999, our polyclinics were moved back to the main building and additional units on April 20, 2007, and our inpatient treatment services and administrative building were moved back to the main building and additional units on February 11, 2008.
As a result of the efforts and work carried out by our hospital management, which has the understanding of providing the highest quality service in health. We became the first hospital in Kocaeli Province to have ISO 9001-2000 certificate on 10.06.2004. In addition, the Right to Choose a Physician has been implemented since September 2006.
Our hospital, which received the title of Kocaeli Derince Training and Research Hospital in 05.08.2008 with the decision of the Ministry of Health. As of the date of 01.06.2015 our hospital had a staff of 307 doctors; 19 associate professors, 15 chief residents, 188 specialist physicians, 72 resident and 13 general practitioners.
While outpatient clinic services are provided service to over one million patients per year with a total of 160 polyclinics in 45 different branches, inpatient treatment services are provided service to over 3500 patients per month with an actual bed capacity of 669. We have an emergency department that render service to an average of 1200 patients per day.
Our hospital has; 20 operating rooms, 8-bed Coronary Intensive Care Unit, 23-bed Anesthesia and Reanimation Intensive Care Unit, 5-bed Cardiovascular Surgery Intensive Care Unit, 33-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and 24-bed Hemodialysis Unit, 13-bed Burn Center, angiography, chemical treatment and endoscopy units, blood center, imaging and laboratory centers. Our hospital also has a heliport that can be used for air transportation.
In order to benefit from our services, patients can make an appointment by calling 182 or by using the central appointment system of Ministry of Health (e-Nabiz) on the internet. Patient and visitor guidance staff are on duty to ensure that patients, relatives and visitors who come to our hospital are informed correctly as soon as possible and that they can complete their paperwork completely and correctly. In addition, all necessary arrangements have been made for people who have examination priority or disabled as according to the law.
In order to increase the service capacity of our hospital; food, security, cleaning, data processing automation and patient guidance consultancy services are provided by service procurement.

Our hospital organizes various patient education and personal development seminars, art activity weeks consisting of theater plays and music concerts, 12 May Nursing Week and 14 March Medicine Day events, social activities such as football and table tennis competitions.
